Theater Workshop

This summer, the Filipinas Heritage Library offers children a different and fun way to develop their creativity, self-confidence and sense of teamwork through its Theater Workshop for Kids. This workshop will teach children theatrical techniques and exercises through imaginative play and role-playing in an informal setting.

Facilitator Missy Maramara graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts, Major in Theater Arts from the Ateneo de Manila University in 2002. Consistently active on stage both in school plays and in professional productions, she decided to produce and direct Rene Villanueva's Awit ng Adarna featuring street children for her Senior Thesis. She received the Dean's Awards for the Arts (now called the Loyola School Awards for the Arts) from the university and continued to pursue theater on the professional stage and in the academe. As a theater actress, she performs with Tanghalang Pilipino, New Voice Company, Silly People’s Improv Theater, Tanghalang Ateneo, and Dulaang UP. She also performs as a guest artist with production suites such as ABS-CBN and Star Cinema. As a teacher, she teaches English and Fine Arts in the Ateneo de Manila University and is also the resident Drama Teacher in Beacon Middle School where she trains and directs grade 6 to grade 8 students. Her latest directorial credit for Children’s Theater is William Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream and John Chambers' Robinhood and the Raven's Revenge. Her training and practice give her a broad scope of approaches, which allows her to merge teaching pedagogy and performance techniques into a holistic personality development program.

Workshop fee: P4,500 inclusive of handouts, materials, snacks, and a certificate. A down payment of P500 is required to reserve a slot. The deadline for reservations is 4 May 2009. A 10 percent discount will be given to those who pay in full on or before 27 April 2009.

The workshop will be held at the Filipinas Heritage Library located along Makati Avenue, Ayala Triangle, Makati City (across The Peninsula Manila).
